OVERPOPULATION

by Grace Nicolas on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 8:15am

I am not talking about the Republic of the Philippines, not even Manila where almost everyone from the provinces would like to migrate but this little town, which bacame famous for the only Springwater resort, The hidden Valley Spring resort located at Brgy. Limao, the farhest brgy in Calauan . Wherever I go and when they found out where I am from, where the sweetest pineapple and lanzones came from, people surely will ask me about it. My town, where I lived for 35 years is Calauan located in Laguna, just after Los Banos and before San Pablo City.

This town is kinda lost in so many ways:

  • Land line phones just introduced a few years ago
  • Limited Manufacturing companies
  • No Hospital
  • No Garbage Dumpsite
  • No Malls
  • No descent restaurant
  • No Big names of Banking Institution
My professor from Organizational Communication told me that i am a late bloomer. Maybe because awareness for me to so many things, issues and advocacies just came to me three years ago. I became aware about a lot of republic acts from RA 6969 to RA 9003, I begun to love all informations related to Climate Change and Environmental programs and most of all, when i lost last may 2010 Election as a councilor, It opened my eyes for so many things like poverty, unwanted pregnancies, illegal settlers, politics, corruptions and the total quality management.

Many issues that need to be solve gave me a lot of time to think why? How come those elected officials cannot solve it? Why those "tambay" compare to me was elected and why i lost? For so many reasons, for so many questions and for so many solutions inside my head..how come  the problem is still there?

Dr. Felix Librero is exceptional, he can tackled all kinds of issues while doing something  or blogging in his laptop. I gained a lot of knowledge about the current events, about street smarts and about pushing my thesis to continue to PhD. On the other hand, Engr. rey Robles gave me a lot of ideas about the environment, he empowered me, taught me how to love our only environment and taught me how to stand for what I think is right.

I went to our 17 barangays and realized the common problem, WORK. Investors need to be encouraged, our small town need to progress and need to limit the population or there must be a population control. Tis is not about the "DAMASO" or Reproductive Health Bill, This is about the reality. One barangay in Calauan became a place where the national Housing Authority is located, became the place for calamity vicims through the ABS CBN Inc "Bayan ni Juan" program and became the place for "Binay" relocation site. There are many questions:

  • Who signed the MOA
  • Does calauan will have some benefits from these?
  • Why in Calauan?
  • Do we have ample livelihood programs for them?
  • Do we have funds for them like for emergencies and additional police force?

There are so many celebrities, foundations and private citizens helping the relocaties inside, but does it solve an problem?
Whenever I am in their barangay hall, left and right complaints will be heard. we have new set of government official, are they thinking what i am thinking now?

I been where water and electricity are not available yet, one of the biggest barangay in Calauan where almost all of my loyal friends are living, I spent a lot of time observing, talking and asking about their problems. I planned to solve some of their problems but being alone is not enough. I gave work, finished their chapel, dessiminate some important informations for awareness and gave them something to look forward to..hope.

I am fortunate enough to tell to everyone that I am a college graduate and finishing my thesis for my masters right now, I realized that education is really important so that you could share it with those who can't even reach grade 6. My dad always telling me if ever I will plan for another project, the community must also have something from it, it should also help a lot of people not only ourselves. I believe in him. I am proud with my parents, my mom taught for fifteen years at Liceo de Calauan and my Dad, for so many years till now is serving the Calauenos with quality products and services and I could say because of them, there are big and tall buildings in Calauan, there is school, manufacturing company and construction hardware.

I am writing this for Calauenos and for all my 2000 plus friends here, please look closely and dont look too far, we have this little place here, where the sweetest pineapple and lansones are grown but there are still places here from the 17 barangays who dont yet still have water, rough roads and right now we still dont have a dumpsite for garbage disposal. People are also not aware about what's really happening around our nation. I am doing my best one step at a time..but as we all know..If there is Change, because of culture, there is resistance.

CONSPIRACY THEORY

CONSPIRACY THEORY

by Grace Nicolas on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 7:34pm
I believe in freedom of speech and i am telling yeah, i am practicing it all the time. A lot of things are happening for a reason and I believe it has a purpose. for whatever reason there is, I am sure it will just teach someone a lesson, might be in a hard way or most..in the most unexpected way. At Grad School, I realized that nobody is perfect but a late bloomer could do a lot of changes to others life. It is given, for every change, there is resistance because of the difference in culture.

My friends told me that they were amazed to all things I did. How did i do that? becuse of free will, determination, confidence which in my case is overflowing, support of my family, love from my husband and because that I believe in this very popular saying..If other's can, why can't I. I beleive also that experienced taught me a lot about the decision making process, my judgements and the education I learned from Kindergarten and Highschool. My mom was my first teacher, she taught me good morals, how to read well and not to be shy. My highschool experience was different, it taight me how to behave, disciplines and to become a leader. Most of all, My dad taught me how to live life to the fullest, how to be strong, ow to not to do to others what you dont want to do unto you and a lot of wisdom everyday.

Right now, i am the elected officer as the Public Relations Officer. I love it. I guess because i like to meet people, I live to talk a lot which is so obvious and because of the total scope of work. I love being an officer. But who will benefit to all my works? Of course not me, not the students but the school. I donated 96 giftpacks last September 26, 2009 for Ondoy victims, I asked my fellow grad school classmates to come with me but only the Engineering management students were the one who go with me to San Isidro, Bay, Laguna beside the laguna the Bay. We removed our shoes and go down to the barangay hall barefooted because of the flood. It was getting dark, so we decided to use the boat but it started to rain again and finally we decided to go back to shool after we donated the giftpacks with rice, clothes and shoes.

My life is full of adventure I could say and there will be for sure no regret from all the experienced. Good or Bad, it was part of life or else i will not be this strong and confident. The foundation of everything is FAMILY. I believe. Most of your life, you spent it with your family, the quality time i supposed. I have very few friends, maybe beacause I am misunderstood for all my advocacist like Climate Change, Reproductive Health Bill and Empowerment of women. I lead twenty mens everyday and they are all following everything I said and decisions. i did my best in all my work and projects because of the fact that the clients trusted their dream home to me, a very overwhelmimg award and every home that I did became my monument too. I believe in Quality and Total Quality Management. Maybe that is why i am still attending school and still want to pursue PhD after this sem. I believe in a continous learning and that our brain will be dull if we will not use it.

Theres an obstacle in every changes in ones life, i have mine now. I call it CONSPIRACY THEORY. As I am about to finish my school this sem, a lot of problem arises. Lot's got affected and abuse of power is rampant. I attended mass this sunday and the topic is GRATITUDE. In this case lack of gratitude is the problem, I thought it is only happening in movies not in real life. if only envy is deadly, a lot of people dies everyday. A friend of mine with a heart to serve is also involved. The evil sorcerer is using her magic wand. I am not surprised for all eveil sorcerers work is to destroy the good names of good people who are sacrificing everything for the sake of others. Now, history repeats itself and that's what I am calling Karma. i am just waiting for the right time, when the evil sorcerers and her flocks of villains will feel the thunder from poseidon. let's wait and see. But for sure, as history repeats itself, no matter what happened, the truth will set us free.

BE QUIET

by Grace Nicolas on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 7:05

In the events this past few days, what Carlos Celdran did is heroic to me. Standing in front of everyone at Manila cathedral and voicing out what he think is right. Right or wrong, he still choose to make a difference and stood by it. ( for info there is no mass on that time, it was an ECUMENICAL MEETING.)

Lots of us became silent to this topic about the controversial RH BILL. But we have a choice. Whether you are against or you are supporting it..speak up than to be quiet. Know what RH BILL is all about.

This is not about religion. This is about what is happening right now which are poverty, over population, HIV, AIDS and a lot of issues that we need to be aware and concern.

God gave us free will and our democracy gave us the freedom of speech. whatever is in your mind. Share. You never know...you are the one we are all looking for.

Lot's of my friends dont even talked to me anymore, they don't comment but that's alright. Now I know what they are and their beliefs, but I am here to pursue my advocacy, I will be a Catholic as long as they will not excommunicated me, I am who I am. Confident I am for my beliefs. My Family even helped a lot of seminarians to graduate to become a priest and have lots of Catholic priest friends and even have  one Catholic Rector Godfather for my kid.

Separation of church and government is also one issue. It is like science and religion. Two separate entity. I am a catholic and I believe that the church must save our souls but I also believe that the government has the right and must save the filipino people from poverty and ignorance.

If you are happy to see kids knocking at your car window and selling you a sampaguita, If you are happy that many illegal settlers are around our nation, If you are happy to hear about unwanted pregnancies, If you are enjoying living in this country in poverty...then stay quiet.

KABABAIHAN, KARAPAT-DAPAT AT KAYA(Women, Deserving and Can)
